May activities at Chalmers Lodge are guaranteed to please.  After abundant April showers, our May flowers are blooming.  We have much to look forward to this month as we enjoy watching our gardens burst into colour and get ready for our annual Mother’s Day Tea. .  New patio furniture has just arrived and residents are putting it to good use.  Soon we will enjoy lemonade in the garden on sunny afternoons.

Along with our regular daily activities, we have a number of special events to look forward to this month:

  • Our Mother’s Day Tea will be held on Sunday, May 13th at 2:30 p.m.  It is always a treat for residents and family to gather and celebrate together.  This special tea delights young and old alike, with lace tablecloths and delicious treats for all.
  • The Vanstring Orchestra will be performing for residents on Sunday, May 20th at 2:30 p.m.  The orchestra is back by popular demand.  Friends and family are welcome to attend.

Our Activities Coordinator has also organized two events that residents may find educational:

  • A representative from the Canadian Institute for the Blind will be speaking to residents about vision loss on Friday, May 18th at 2:30 p.m.  This will be useful for those who may be experiencing vision loss, and for those who would like to gain insights and information about it.
  • Chalmers Lodge is hosting a Blood Pressure Clinic for residents on May 28th at 2:30 p.m.  All residents are welcome to have their blood pressure tested and learn more about how to maintain healthy blood pressure.

We are announcing a new club at Chalmers Lodge – the Chalmers Lodge Book Club.  The first book we will be reading is “The Cellist of Sarajevo”.  This is a member-run group and open to all readers.  The Vancouver Public Library system distributes bags containing multiple copies of a single book, specially for book clubs.  We will be taking advantage of this great service.

We wish everyone a happy spring!
